Industrial Hygienist, Indoor Air Quality

Requires 2+ years? experience in building sciences consulting and a bachelor?s degree in environmental science, industrial hygiene, environmental health science, chemistry, or a related field.

A Building Science Manager is responsible for project management and various aspects of field work related to the building sciences service area that includes asbestos, lead, mold, and indoor air quality. Work is performed with direction from senior level personnel; under the general supervision of the Office Manager.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS



  • Understand, participate and be fully engaged in August Mack?s safety program, training, and policies.

  • Manage all aspects of projects including budget, estimating, scheduling, field activities, data interpretation, and client interaction. Maintain project momentum.

  • Train field personnel and perform (as needed) all field tasks necessary to complete a project?s scope of work. Includes (1) asbestos investigations including inspection, abatement oversight, air monitoring, and air clearance sampling; (2) lead-based paint investigations including inspections, risk assessments, abatement oversight, dust wipe/air clearance sampling, and report writing; and (3) IAQ (indoor air quality) and microbial investigations including initial inspections, remediation oversight, and pre/post remediation air clearance sampling.

  • Identify potential sources of contamination when working on a job site.

  • Identify changes to the scope of work, discuss with onsite client, and execute change orders (if necessary).

  • Perform regulatory and technical research as needed to support a project.

  • Evaluate, select, schedule, and manage subcontractors.

  • Responsible for client communication on all projects including closing the sale, explaining the scope and cost of work, presenting the project schedule, informing the client of possible problems, and explaining change orders.

  • Prepare a Health and Safety Plan (HASP) when applicable and review and enforce the plan with all persons at the work site.

  • Document all field activities being performed in a field log including reporting on field techniques, locations of the work, and any relevant field observations.

  • Write the final report for senior review including field techniques, location(s), relevant field observations, data interpretation, and conclusions/recommendations.

  • Prepare job descriptions of successfully completed projects and update August Mack resume for marketing purposes.

  • Research and report as a subject matter expert (SME) in support of litigation matters.


Requires 2+ years? experience in building sciences consulting and a bachelor?s degree in environmental science, industrial hygiene, environmental health science, chemistry, or a related field. Strong computer and verbal/written communication skills are a must. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.




Employees will receive in-house awareness training and be required to obtain a State of Ohio Asbestos License and Lead Risk Assessor License. Strong computer and verbal/written communication skills are a must. OSHA Hazwoper 40 Hour Certification and/or General Industry 10 or 30 Hour Certifications are a plus.




Additional Requirements:


This classification requires the use of a company or personal vehicle on company business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license, have an acceptable driving record and receive a medical clearance from a baseline physical.




This classification requires travel to various client locations. Travel typically involves day trips within the state or neighboring states, resulting in longer work days; and may include extended and/or further travel, resulting in multiple days and overnights. Long distance drives and air travel may be required.




This classification has the potential for fluctuating weekend and night work shifts.

  • Building construction and materials.

  • Mold, asbestos, and lead.

  • Hazards inherent to the environmental work and related safety measures.

  • Calibrating and using various types of field equipment.

  • Performing mathematical calculations.


Ability to:



  • Learn job-related material primarily through verbal instruction, training, reading, researching and observation in an on-the-job setting.

  • Document and organize while working on multiple projects.

  • Accurately measure and document distances using a tape measure or other measuring device.

  • Work out doors in a variety of weather conditions.

  • Work in small, cramped areas.

  • Travel across rough, uneven or rocky surfaces to access equipment.?

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
